Pattern Scout Romy Wrap Dress + GIVEAWAY

It’s a celebration! I hit 5k followers on Instagram and I am blown away! You guys are too sweet and I cannot thank you enough for all your love and support! I have met some truly amazing people on Instagram and my sewing journey has just been spectacular. Definitely a mix of ups and downs but it has been nothing short of inspiring. I’ve learnt so much and hope that you’ve learnt from and been inspired by me as well! All of that being said, I am hosting a giveaway! This giveaway is actually long overdue but ended up happening at the perfect time! I am actually celebrating 2 years on Instagram on July 9th!

As a tester for the Pattern Scout Romy Wrap Top & Dress pattern, I was offered a coupon code to host a giveaway. You guys have seen my top already and I did sew up my dress version immediately after the top. However, it was important for me to take a little social media break at the time to focus on more important issues and to support the people who needed our love and support the most. It was also a great time for me to take a mental health break. During my absence, my Instagram apparently grew like crazy because I was being shared as a bipoc maker.

I posted two makes since then and those got so much love as well. The Screwdriver top is my most liked photo on Instagram and got a ton of love in sewing Facebook groups as well. The other post was my announcement for my Love Notions Ambassadorship and alot of you came over from the Love Notions page to show your support. Before I knew it, I had passes 5k like nobody’s business! This giveaway literally could not happen at a more perfect time.

Now to share the details of my Romy wrap dress which may just be my new favourite dress! You guys loved my snake print peplum top so much, I went back to the fabric store to see if there were any other colourways of that fabric. Sure enough, I managed to grab this green and yellow colourway for my Romy dress. I used alot of starch to control the slipping and sliding; starch is becoming my best friend in the sewing room!

I kept everything the same as the top except for the sleeves. Same size and everything but I omitted the cuffs and just did an elastic hem instead. So now I have a ¾ bishop or balloon type sleeve. Looove this sleeve with this dress! I managed to pattern match the back of the dress but not the front. Oops! It doesn’t bother me though! My buttons are the same little gold shank buttons like those on my top version.

The busy fabric hides the pleat details and button closure a bit but I am still happy with my fabric choice. The shape of the dress coupled with the flowy satin creates really nice movement. My mom actually said this is her favourite make of mine when I sent her the photos! Funny enough? My weight has been fluctuating like crazy lately and on shoot day, I wondered if I should have gone down a size but today as I write this, I am back to my regular size so I have no idea! Next time I may try one size smaller just to compare.

Now for what you’ve all been waiting for.. yes I am giving away a copy of this gorgeous pattern over on my Instagram! The rules are pretty simple:

  1. Follow @islandsewcialist and @patternscout on Instagram
  2. Like my giveaway post
  3. Tag friends in the comments of that post for multiple entries
  4. Comment on that post letting me know which of my makes is your favourite

The giveaway will end on July 10th at 11:59pm est. So you have one week to get your entries in and share with your friends so they can enter as well. Good luck!
