‘Fineapple’ – Mimi G Jessica Dress

Mimi G Jessica Dress Pattern Review

When Mimi announced that she was giving away the Jessica dress PDF pattern as a freebie, I think I did a back flip. I downloaded it straight away! This was actually my first PDF pattern. It is how I learnt to print and assemble my PDF patterns and so it holds a special place in my heart. Funny story though, I made my muslin of size medium when it was that awful time of the month and concluded that it couldn’t button and I needed to size up. So I cut my actual fabric in size large. I used a pineapple striped cotton poplin from Telio Fashion. On photo shoot day, I had to take in the dress. Note to self – never make muslins at that time ever again!

I followed Mimi’s YouTube sew-along and the dress came together very quickly. I shortened it a bit, opted for tie straps, and swapped out the patch pockets for inseam ones. I’m not sure a gathered dress fits my body type. I feel like it makes me look a bit chunky; but I really do love this pattern and will make it again. Of course my machine gave trouble on the very last buttonhole 🙂

Mimi G Jessica Dress Review

Pattern Description:

Misses’ sundress, featuring a sweetheart neckline, button-front and gathered skirt.

Pattern Sizing:

XXS – 2XL I fell in between a medium and large. I made the large.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

It did except for my few style changes.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

I didn’t even bother with the written instructions since Mimi G has a sew along on her YouTube channel. It was incredibly easy to follow along.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I love the style. It is great for multiple body types. Princess seams and gathers make it easy to adjust. I didn’t enjoy doing so many buttonholes though.

Fabric Used:

Telio cotton poplin – pineapple stripe

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I had to take in the top a bit since i fell in between sizes. I changed the straps to tie straps and did inseam pockets since I wasn’t a fan of the large patch pockets. Also, I shortened the pattern by 6 inches to hit just below the knee since I’m on the shorter side.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Definitely! It is a must try.

Conclusion:

I really enjoyed making this pattern. It was pretty easy and I felt lovely in it.

Did any of you make the Mimi G Jessica Dress this summer? Let me know in the comments below!
