M8003 #sewingalltheleopardprint

Hi sewing friends!

Something is about to look a bit familiar. Yes I made another pencil skirt! I couldn’t help myself! I recently made McCall’s M7983 in a snake print faux leather and absolutely fell in love with this pattern. Like I said in that post, this is my new go to pencil skirt pattern!
One of my prizes from winning #sewfrosting last year was a gift card from Oak Fabrics. There were so many gorgeous fabric choices, I tried to get small yardages so I could have more variety. Call me stingy but I wanted to maximize the value of the gift card without having to pay any extra LOL. I got a 1 yard piece of black corduroy. I actually had a mini skirt in mind when I chose it. But as you know… we sewists change our minds like 50 times before we actually cut the fabric right?
I purchased my gold double ended zipper from Wawak and oh my gosh the gold stands out so nicely against the black. It makes the skirt look really expensive. With this one I graded from 14 waist to 16 hip because the fabric has no stretch at all but my previous fabric had a ton of stretch so I thought they wouldn’t fit the same. It turned out my exercising is finally paying off. Because I also had to take this one in to a straight size 14. And since this one has no give, the waist is perfectly snug and it hugs the hips in the most flattering way!
Now on to this amazing collab with the lovely Andrea! Andrea started an Instagram hashtag #sewingalltheleopardprint. More and more we are realizing we have very similar taste! I mean I think I lived in leopard print my entire life! I am so happy that animal print is trending at the minute and the fabric stores have an abundant supply! This is what dreams are made of!
I found this amazing leopard print scuba crepe in my local fabric store and thought it would pair perfectly with a pattern I had in mind to make up next, McCall’s M8003. The truth is, when I looked up the fabric online to link for you guys, I realized it is actually an Ocelot print. Oops! Here is the link to the fabric on Fabric.com. But you know what, I was already calling it leopard print so I shall continue. I posted my fabric on Insta stories and it turned out that Andrea had fabric that was almost identical and so this collab was born! She made the most stunning pants ever by the way!
So I made my M8003 as planned. After my last bodysuit fail, I opted to make a regular top this time. I went with View B, shortened by 1 inch and I also shortened the sleeves 1 inch. Let me tell you, this is a pattern you neeeed in your life! I made size 16 and it fits like a dream. The scuba in the fabric helps it to suck me in as well!
The cutout is super cute and I can see myself making a million of these from all different types of knits! A cozy sweater knit to pair with jeans is totally on my list! I think this was the perfect pattern to pair with this fabric and also to pair with this skirt! It is definitely a va va voom type of outfit that is sure to turn heads! I styled mine with red strappy heels and red lipstick of course!
Which of my pencil skirt outfits do you prefer? As much as I love the snake print, I am leaning more toward this one! Classic black with gold hardware, leopard print and red accessories. This is me in a nutshell!
