Have you made your shopping list for the Love Notions 40% off sale yet? Remember it’s the last sale of the year! So far I’ve shown you my tie dye Willow Wrap dress and my sparkly Rockford Raglan. Today I am sharing two patterns in one outfit! The Forte top with the Sybil skirt.
I’ve made two Sybil skirts before in snakeprint scuba crepe. The swing version and then a mini pencil version from scraps. You can read that blog post here. I really wanted a full knee length pencil skirt because I knew I would get so much more wear. I especially love knit pencil skirts.. so easy to throw on and run out the door. And even easier to fit. This was no exception!
The Sybil Illusion is a knit pattern offering 7 styles and 2 lengths.
- Drop yoke
- Assymetrical wrap
- Optional inseam pockets
- Control panel
I made the knee length pencil skirt in size L. The only change I made was to shorten one inch since I was going to omit hemming. I only had one pattern piece! Hallelujah! And the waistband is a rectangle so super easy to draw out. I measured mine out on the fabric itself so I didn’t need another pattern piece. And because my fabric is a border print, I was able to cut the waistband from the cream part so it stands out among the busy animal print.
I have no idea what type of fabric this is. I found it in my local fabric store and I touched it every single time I passed by it for months now but just wouldn’t commit. This time it really spoke to me so I brought it home. As soon as I laid it out on the floor, I knew it was destined to be a Sybil! The fabric is only 45″ wide and it is a double border. So if you wanted to make anything bigger than a skirt, you’d probably end up with a random cream panel in the middle somewhere. But it was the perfect width for a knee length pencil skirt. It’s a pretty stable knit but has lots of stretch. The lines that run across remind me of bandage material but it isn’t nearly as stiff. I cut the edge right under one of the lines so I didn’t need to hem. And the fabric has great recovery, so the waistband doesn’t need elastic. Though I styled it with a flowy top this time, I will definitely style it with something more fitted and tucked in to show off the waistband. Then you can see the entire border print from light to dark.
My rust top is so perfect for this season and is the perfect top to hide any food babies or bloating. I specifically chose this silhouette because I need more flowy tops for when I am bloated. Matter of fact, I was super bloated during this shoot and this was the comfiest outfit ever! I may keep this exact outfit ready every month for that particular time! You really can’t beat a stretchy skirt with no closures and a floaty jersey top when it comes to ease and comfort. And the best part is that it is still a very stylish outfit!
The pattern I used for my top is the Forte Top & Dress pattern. The Forte is meant for light to medium weight knits and has a ton of fun options.
- Gathered skirt peplum style with scoop neck
- Waterfall skirt with V neck
- Classic tee with scoop neck
- Gathered inverted with V neck
- 2 dress views
- Full bust option
I Made the gathered skirt peplum style with scoop neck in size L standard bust. I shortened my top by 3 inches because I really wanted to show off the border print on the skirt.
- Short with flounce
- Plain short
- Plain mid length
- Plain long
For my sleeves, I chose the plain mid length.
I styled my head to toe LN outfit with a long tortoise shell tassel necklace and I think it pairs beautifully with the colours in the animal print. I have to say this is probably one of my favourite LN outfits I’ve made to date. The colours, the fabrics, the comfort – all a win for me! Hubby was quite enthused as well! So I’ve given you inspiration for 4 patterns now. I hope you feel inspired and want to add these two to your shopping list. If you do, here are my links for the Forte Top & Dress pattern and Sybil Illusion Skirt pattern. Remember to checkout before Friday October 9th 5pm CST! Also, if you want to win one Love Notions pattern of your choice, I am hosting a giveaway over on my Instagram. Good luck!
